Although not a part of the Sermon on the Mount, this passage introduces Jesus' three-fold ministry of preaching, teaching and healing and shows how crowds from all over began coming to Him. Matthew repeatedly shows how Jesus fulfilled prophecy thus proving He was indeed the Messiah. As He began His ministry in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali, Matthew says He fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah 9: "Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea long the Jordan, Galilee of The Gentiles--The people living darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned."
