Jesus said the church should have a transforming influence on the world. Like salt and light, the church must preserve society and bring light into the darkness. The Bible tells us that the church must support legitimate government and pray for governing officials; however when government is opposed to the gospel, the church must still hold fast to the teachings of Christ, just as the early disciples could not keep from proclaiming what they had seen and heard. The church has two basic functions in the world--worship and witness. We must worship our risen Lord and in obedience to His command, we must make disciples of all nations.
