Of all the symbols of Christianity including the cross, fish, Greek letters alpha and omega, none is more significant and descriptive than the Lion and the Lamb.  Revelation chapter five portrays Christ in both ways, with the emphasis here on Christ as the slain Lamb standing in the center of the throne of heaven.  He is the only One found in heaven or on earth who is worthy to break the seven seals and open the scroll held in the right hand of Him who sits on the throne.   We will see the opening of the seals in chapter six; now John records the Lamb taking the scroll from the right hand of God and immediately the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the Lamb.  They sing a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with our blood your purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.  As John continued to look, he saw innumerable angels singing in a loud voice "Worthy is the Lamb." And then they are joined by every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth. They also present to the Father golden bowls of incense "which are the prayers of the saints."  We learn from this chapter that every prayer prayed is recorded and is precious to the Father.  We also learn that Christ and Christ alone is the key to understanding salvation history.
